RM2000???

My Dream Rig

And indeed I was dreaming. With Rm2000 I can barely fulfill my 'dream'. Anyway, I was thinking, if my computer were to breakdown, and I only have RM2000, how and what specifications should I go for to get the best bang for buck?!

So I made myself a guide

A Guide to Buying a Core System with a Budget of RM2000!

Okay. This guide is gonna start off with the rig of my choice and then I'll justify why I chose them later on. The price stated is based on Cycom Dec 2010 Pricelist.

Core System Total 2067

Motherboard, Processor, Memory

At RM615, the quad-core Core i5 2400 is one of Intel's latest processor architecture. It runs on a 3.10GHZ and has superior performance compare to the slightly pricier quad-core i5 760 which runs at 2.80GHZ. This makes it a better choice and a respectable entry-level enthusiast processor.

Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL currently offers one of the least expensive H67 motherboards around. Costing only RM355, it is jam-packed with two USB 3.0 ports, two SATA 6Gbs ports, as well as onboard video outputs to utilize Sandy Bridge's on-die graphics core.

Graphics, Sound

While I’m a gamer enthusiast, a reasonable graphic card should accompany my rig and there’s no better time than now. With heavyweights like the GeForce GTX 460 now crowding the sub-RM600 market, AMD's Radeon HD 5770 is more affordable than ever at RM429 and is fully capable of delivering solid frames with high quality game settings.

As for the sound card, a dedicated one doesn’t really matter for me when I have a tight budget.

Storage

Western Digital Blue 1000GB, running at 7200RPM is sufficient for long term storage and a standard hard disk drive costing RM179.

Power, Case

According to AMD, a power supply-unit with 450W is sufficient to run Radeon HD5770, which CoolerMaster Extreme 460W fits in even without true power. To learn more about true power, click this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_power

The Cooler Master Elite Series casing is good enough to house my components especially the motherboard with sufficient spaces and reasonable air flow to keep the rig cool.

Conclusion
Yes in conclusion, for an entry level computer rig with just a budget of RM2000+, you can still get a reasonable specifications which can last you for years, if you don't chase after the never-ending technology race. Have a nice day.
